Itinerary

Day 1Arrival

Arrival in Tbilisi. Transfer to the hotel. (-/-/-)

Day 2Tbilisi (40 km)

After breakfast we will explore the capital of Georgia, Tbilisi. Wander in the old districts of the city which are structured like terraces, as well as take a walk in the narrow streets to enjoy colorful houses, patterned balconies and wonderful samples of modern architecture. We will start the tour from Metekhi church (13th c) facing the magnificent views of old Tbilisi. A stroll along the winding little streets takes us to the main sights of the city. Afterwards, we will take a cable car to enjoy the panoramic views of the whole town and through the ancient Narikala fortress (4th c.), find ourselves in the historical domed sulphur bath area – connected with the name of our city.

Day 3Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Tbilisi (180 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.
In the morning we visit the ancient capital and religious centre of Georgia – Mtskheta and its historical sights: Jvari Monastery (6th century) and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (11th century) – both UNESCO World Heritage sites. We continue to drive to the town of Gori – the heart of Kartli region. We visit Stalin’s museum and continue to Uplistsikhe Cave Town (1st millennium BC), If you decide to set off on a journey in time, then you absolutely must visit the unique and ancient city of Uplistsikhe. It was here, where in ancient times caravans from faraway lands would gather. At present in the city there are well preserved ancient and antique halls and caves form thousands of years ago, as well as an ancient theater, pharmacy and wine cellar, among many other things. Drive back to Tbilisi. Overnight at a hotel in Tbilisi. (B/-/-)

Day 4 Tbilisi – Stepantsminda – Gergeti – Tbilisi (320 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.
In the morning, we drive up the famous Georgian Military Highway (leading to the Georgian-Russian border). On the way, visit Ananuri architectural complex (17th century), the two churches and the fortress overlook the Zhinvali water reservoir. The carvings on the churches are one of the best samples of the Georgian art. The drive is very scenic through high Caucasus Mountains. Arrive in Stepantsminda – the main town in the region. Drive up to Gergeti Trinity church. Weather permitting you may catch a glimpse of one of the highest glaciers in the Caucasus – Mt Kazbegi (5047 m.).
Drive back to the town. Some free time and then, drive back to Tbilisi.

Day 5Sadakhlo – Haghpat – Fioletovo – Alpabet Park – Yerevan (260 km)

Arrival at Sadakhlo border. Meet the transfer and continue our tour to Armenia.
Drive to the architectural complex of Haghpat (10th c.) which is among the outstanding works of medieval Armenian architecture and is inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage list. The monastery used to be an important educational center in Medieval architecture.
Afterwards head to village Fioletovo to meet the local minorities – the molokans, to interact and have traditional tea with them.
Drive to the Armenian alphabet park, a huge stones representing each of Armenian letter, the favorite place for the photography lovers. Set against the backdrop of Armenia’s Mt. Aragats, the letters and a statue of Mashtots pay tribute to the complex and unique language, a national point of pride of Armenia.
Drive to Yerevan.

Day 6Yerevan city tour – Zvartnots – Brandy Factory (100km)

After breakfast we’ll start our sightseeing tour around the vibrant city Yerevan. Being established in 782 BC, nowadays Yerevan is a thriving city with the excitement, hustle and bustle of a modern capital. We start our exploration from the Republic Square, the masterpiece of the architect Alexander Tamanian. Continue to the Opera House, a stunning architectural piece and the hub of Yerevan. Freedom Square is just behind, surrounded by parks which have been taken over by outdoor cafes, and finally Swan Lake. We visit Cascade Complex, an open-air museum of modern art with massive stairways leading up to the Victory Park providing a fantastic overlook to the entire city from above. The complex links the historic residential and cultural centers of the city with a vast area of waterfalls and outdoor gardens. Visit Tsitsernakaberd Memorial park and the museum of the victims of Genocide.
We’ll continue our tour to see the ruins of Zvartnots temple (closed on Monday) – the pearl of the 7th c. architecture (inscribed in UNESCO World Heritage list).
Then we visit Ararat Brandy Company to taste “The Aged Brandies” of different years. The legendary Ararat brandy is considered the pride of many generations and a global symbol of Armenia. Here we’ll have an opportunity to taste 3 types of best iconic brandy.

Day 7Yerevan – Khor Virap – Areni-1 Cave – Noravank – Yerevan (250 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.
After breakfast we’ll drive to Khor Virap Monastery, a real piece of history. The religious importance of the monastery is related to the first Armenian Catholicos, Grigor Illuminator who introduces Christianity to Armenia. It stands before the snowcapped flanks of Mount Ararat offering astounding view of the mountain – the national symbol of Armenia.
Head to Hin Areni winery, was founded in 1994 and fully renovated in 2014 with the introduction of French and Italian systems in a combination of local tradition and modern equipment. The vineyards are located on a plateau around the village, the soil is stony, well drained and with a high content of limestone. The main grape varieties are Areni Noir and Voskehat.
Visit Areni – 1 Cave – the highlight of the trip for many as the viticulture significance is considerable. The winemaking equipment and residue found in this cave have been carbon-dated to 6,100 years old and as you stand there, imagining what it would have been like for winemakers thousands of years ago the atmosphere is palpable.
Continue tour to Noravank monastery – religious and cultural center of 13th c. It is situated in a narrow gorge which is known for its’ tall, sheer, brick red cliffs, directly across from the monastery. The beauty of this monastery is appreciated by thousands of visitors not only because of its architecture and history, but for its harmony with surrounding fabulous nature. Day 8Yerevan – Lake Sevan – Noratus – Yerevan (205 km)

After breakfast our stop will be Lake Sevan, the so called “Blue Pearl of Armenia”. This huge mountain lake, which takes up to 5% of Armenia’s surface area, is about 2,000 meters above sea level and is the second highest freshwater lake in the world.
Visit Sevanavank Monastery or “The Black Monastery” built in the 9th century.
Then, we’ll head to Noratous, a cozy village adjacent to the lake. The village is huge medieval-modern cemetery, covering an area of 7 hectares. 
Visit the local cheese factory to taste the different types of cheese and a glass of wine, also get acquainted with the techniques of special cheese assortment.
and an impressive array of early khachkars (Armenian cross stones). Noratus is considered to be the world’s biggest khachkars collection.
Drive back to Yerevan.

Day 9 Fruit market – Garni – Geghard – Vernissage (80 km)

Breakfast at the hotel.
After breakfast visit Fruit market full of Armenian fresh fruits and vegetables. Here we’ll enjoy homemade treats and get a real taste of local life in Yerevan.
Afterwards drive to Garni village to visit Garni Temple dating back to the 1st century. The citadel and pagan temple of Garni is a picturesque monument of the Hellenistic period and an impressive piece of ancient Armenian architecture. After adopting Christianity in 301, the pagan temple lost its significance and the fortress of Garni became the summer residence of the kings.
Then we visit Geghard Monastery. The spectacular towering cliffs surrounding the monastery are part of the Azat River gorge, and are included together with the monastery in the UNESCO World Heritage Site listing. Some of the chambers within the complex are entirely dug out of the cliff rocks, others are little more than caves, while others are elaborate structures, with both architecturally complex walled sections and rooms deep inside the cliff.
Return to Yerevan.
Then, visit Vernissage flea market, where you can find handmade jewelry, carpets and paintings.
